VSCLT Celebrates First Homeowner!

The Virginia Statewide Community Land Trust welcomed their first Community Land Trust homeowner in Loudoun County, VA in partnership with Loudoun Habitat for Humanity. VSCLT was formed through a partnership between Habitat for Humanity affiliates and other affordable housing experts, and is able to serve the entire state of Virginia to ensure widespread adoption of this affordable housing tool.

Loudoun Habitat for Humanity is excited to welcome the first time homeowners and to partner with VSCLT. Homeowners in VSCLT’s program still go through Habitat’s program, completing sweat equity hours and homeownership preparation classes.

“We are so excited for the first VSCLT home to be a Loudoun Habitat home! This is a wonderful opportunity for long term wealth building for our homeowners and is a lasting investment from Habitat to the county for years to come. These homeowners have accomplished so much and we are proud of them,” Therese Cashen, CEO of Loudoun Habitat for Humanity

The partnership between Habitat and VSCLT enhances the work Habitat already does to connect families to wealth-building opportunities through homeownership. The CLT model amplifies Habitat’s impact by ensuring permanent affordability of the home for current and future generations to come. Future VSCLT homeowners are expected in Loudoun County, Fauquier County, Fairfax County, and other localities around the state. VSCLT partners with Loudoun Habitat, Fauquier Habitat, and Habitat D.C.-NOVA, and would love to develop partnerships with other Habitat affiliates and mission-driven developers across Virginia.

“Fauquier Habitat for Humanity looks forward to supporting our homeowners in Fauquier and Rappahannock counties through the VSCLT.  Because of land trust, we are able to build permanently affordable housing inventory while also helping families build dignity and hope through housing. Investing in a community land trust represents an impactful commitment to the communities we serve and represents the responsible financial stewardship our volunteers and donors expect,” Darryl Neher, Chair of the Board of VSCLT and CEO of Fauquier County Habitat for Humanity.
